For this purpose, the society publishes a members' magazine, the Journal of Fantastic Research, out and hosts a big one once a year annual meeting at different venues. The GFF is interdisciplinary and has set itself the goal of providing a forum for the discussion of the fantastic as a cultural formation that goes beyond specific subjects. The fantastic is understood as a generic term that includes horror and gothic as well as utopias, science fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction, but also fairy tales, fables and myths. The GFF sees fantastic research as open in terms of media, modality and methodology and promotes work from a wide variety of disciplines. A special focus of the society should be the promotion of young scientists.
