The Gesellschaft für Fantastikforschung eV (GFF) is a scientific society that has set itself the task of promoting research into the fantastic in art, literature, media and culture in German-speaking countries on a scientific basis and to deepening scientific and cultural knowledge to contribute in these areas. For this purpose, the society publishes a members' magazine, the Journal of Fantastic Research, out and hosts a big one once a year annual meeting at different venues. The GFF is interdisciplinary and has set itself the goal of providing a forum for the discussion of the fantastic as a cultural formation that goes beyond specific subjects. The fantastic is understood as a generic term that includes horror and gothic as well as utopias, science fiction, fantasy and speculative fiction, but also fairy tales, fables and myths. The GFF sees fantastic research as open in terms of media, modality and methodology and promotes work from a wide variety of disciplines. A special focus of the society should be the promotion of young scientists.
For this reason, the GFF has been awarding a dissertation prize every two years since 2016.
The prize is advertised as a subsidy for printing costs in the amount of €1.000. Funding is available for completed dissertations that were written in German or English at a university in the German-speaking region (D/A/CH), deal with a topic of the fantastic (in the sense of society) and whose approval is within the application period (01.04.2020/01.03.2023/1 to XNUMX/XNUMX/XNUMX). .XNUMX). The date of the dissertation certificate applies. The submitted dissertations are evaluated by an international scientific jury. Submissions should be emailed in PDF format to the email address below. The reviews and an abstract (max. XNUMX page) must be enclosed with the manuscript of the dissertation.
The prize will be awarded at the GfF Conference 2023. Travel and accommodation costs are covered by the GfF.
