6th Annual Meeting of the Society for Fantasy Research

Of Searching, Understanding and Sharing... Knowledge in the Fantastic

University of Tübingen, September 24th – 27th, 2015

Under the title "Of searching, understanding and sharing... knowledge in the fantastic." From September 24th to 27th, 2015, the 6th annual conference of the Society for Fantasy Research will take place in the new auditorium of the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen.

This year's conference is a cooperation between the GfF and the Institute for Media Studies at the University of Tübingen and the Center for Animation Research located there. The sixth annual conference would like to devote itself to the diverse function and importance of knowledge in the fantastic from an interdisciplinary perspective.

The program (Download: detailed/short version/Abstracts) starts on September 24, 2015 at 14 p.m. with the Opening address through Dr. Meike Uhrig, Coordinator of the Center for Animation Research at the University of Tübingen, and Dr. des. Lars Schmeink, Chairman of the Society for Fantasy Research and ends on September 27, 2015 at around 16 p.m.

In addition to contributions from various fields of fantastic research, we could Jeffrey Weinstock and Steffen Hantke win as a keynote speaker.

professor dr Jeffrey Weinstock is a professor in the English Department at Central Michigan University, Mt. Pleasant USA, an author and one of the world's leading experts on Gothic research. With his lecture on "Epistemic Thinking, Weird Fiction, and Lovecraft's Blasphemous Knowledge" In his keynote speech at the annual conference, he gives an insight into his research, which has received numerous awards, which, in addition to Gothic, also includes cultural studies, approaches to pop culture and American literature.

professor dr Steffen Hantke is a professor at the American Studies Department at Sogang University in Seoul, South Korea and a relevant expert in the field of science fiction and horror films. His publications include standard works of fantastic research. In his lecture entitled "Everything You Always Wanted to Know About the Bomb and Never Dared to Ask: Learning about the Bomb from 1950s Horror and Science Fiction Films" he will deal with the reciprocal influences of fiction and world history.

In the supporting program we will Martin Wambsganss get in a fantastic mood musically with his troupe and Daniel Illger introduces his new novel "Skargat" (published by Klett-Cotta). The Arsenal cinema is featured in a GfF special "The Adventures of Prince Ahmed" (Reiniger 1926) show for us. This supporting program item is supplemented by a visit to the Lotte Reiniger Exhibition (a pioneer of fantastic film) in the Stadtmuseum Tübingen.
